BEGGING BERLIN

Lisa Büscher (born 1982, Münster, Germany) works in the field of sculpture and installation. Human nature in all its manifold forms is the central theme of her work. The sculptress approaches her themes by creating hyperrealistic three-dimensional figures and human reproductions. To achieve this goal Büscher combines synthetic materials such as silicone, polyester and epoxy resin with natural materials like human hair.

Through showing the superficial appearance, the artist directs the viewer’s gaze towards the human core. Thus, the artist creates a field of tension, in which she captivates and repels the viewer at the same time. This dynamic allows the artist to give expression to her perceptions and emotions.

„Begging Berlin“ is inspired by her daily exposure to the reality of the urban streets of Berlin.

The project originated in 2018 in cooperation with the railway mission at Bahnhof Zoo. The artist directly cast the hands of several guests there, all of whom have lived on the street for multiple sessions.

About ALEAH JAKTA

Aleah Jakta

Aleah Jakta is the pseudonym of an Indonesian artist born in 1999 in Depok, south of Jakarta, in a family of master weavers. Very early on in his life, the young Aleah shows great aptitudes in designing intricate decorative patterns going somewhat beyond the traditional craft.

In 2015, questions about both sexual and cultural identity push Aleah to move to Amsterdam first, and then to Berlin, where he mingles with young artists from all over the world, living in squats and participating in underground group shows.

The discovery of contemporary art is lived by Aleah as a liberating experience, but also as a near traumatic encounter with the worst symptoms of the absurdity of post-modern globalized capitalist culture.

For this show, Aleah Jakta’s first one-person exhibition, the thematic of BLUE CHIPwas chosen for its esthetic potential as well as for its symbolical dimension in the context of today’s art market.

****

N.B.: Aleah Jakta, the name chosen by this artist, refers to a famous quote from Julius Caesar, as he was crossing the Rubicon: “Alea jacta est”, translatable in English as “the die is cast” or, in German, “die Würfel sind gefallen”.

CV Grégoire Müller

Grégroire Müller

DEUTSCH

ENGLISH

Grégoire Müller was born in Switzerland in 1947.

After graduation, he moves to Paris in 1965 to be a painter. He soon finds himself facing American Pop Art and early Minimalism at the Sonabend Gallery and realizes that his approach to painting needs to be put in question. After working as an assistant with the sculptor César, he then starts writing about arts in order to better understand the issues of that time.

Art critic for the Pariscope, as well as correspondent of Art and Artists (London), he also contributes to Harald Szeeman’s epochal When Attitudes Become Form exhibition by writing the french preface. He experiences the decline of the Nouvelle École de Paris and the events of Mai 68′.

In 1969 he moves to Soho in New York, starts with construction jobs, before becoming one of Richard Serra’s assistants. He starts writing for Artsmagazine and soon becomes their Editor. He also holds a seminar at the School of Visual Arts.

In 1972, after publishing his book The New Avant-Garde he suspends all his activities as a critic to return to painting and starts showing his work regularly in group and solo exhibitions. By the mid eighties he catches the attention of legendary figures as the art dealer Richard Bellamy and the collector Robert C. Scull, as well as the New York Times’ critic Michael Brenson.

In 1987 he returns to Europe and opens a studio in the old Breitling factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds (Switzerland) where he has been living and working up to this day.

In March 2021 he was awarded with the Prix de l’Institut neuchâtelois.
